The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is an internationally recognised certificate that is required in most European and worldwide countries if you want to you either own or rent a boat.
There are several different classes of the ICC. We offer power up to 10m and power up to 24m (coastal) on the basis of a one-day assessment.
There are two ways to gain your ICC:
- Successfully undertake the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course which then allows you to apply for the ICC
- Undertake a direct assessment for the ICC. This can be a half day assessment during which a certain level of competence must be displayed in order for the examiner to issue a pass certificate.
We usually find that even with lots of hands-on practical experience, people sometimes fall down on theory knowledge needed to pass the ICC. We recommend completing a PB2 prior to taking the ICC assessment but are happy to chat through your experience and skill level on the phone to assess the most appropriate learning pathway.
Notes
The ICC lasts 5 years.
